Definition of terms
Definition of Terms
The Institute defines these terms operationally as follows
Trauma
"Trauma" refers to the emotional wounds caused by interpersonal violence and issues, such as partner violence, sexual violence, child abuse, childhood abuse experiences, and workplace harassment. Natural disasters and conflicts can also cause emotional trauma. In situations like natural disasters, interpersonal violence and issues tend to become more apparent and worsen, making them inextricably linked. However, even in such cases, we would like the focus of this institute's research and support to remain on "violence and issues arising from interpersonal relationships." This approach respects the expertise of the institute's members and leverages their strengths and experiences.
Survivor
"Survivors" refers to individuals who have experienced trauma (as defined above) in the past.
Trauma Recovery
Trauma Recovery is a process (journey) of holistic recovery after a traumatic experience in physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects. This includes not only the aspects visible to others, but also internal changes, such as understanding and accepting the trauma, making meaning in life, and integrating into one's identity.
